In this webinar, Neal Kemp outlines how to build a technical interview process that top developers actually want to go through. Backed by real experience as both an engineer and a founder, Neal shares how to test what matters—while respecting candidates' time and keeping hiring on track.
What you'll learn
Test what they’ll actually do on the job
Skip live coding (unless you pair-program on the job). Instead, use take-homes, system design, and technical Q&A that reflect real responsibilities.
Keep it tight and candidate-friendly
Aim to go from first call to offer within 2–3 weeks. Limit take-homes to a few hours and avoid dragging candidates through excessive interviews.
Empower interviewers, but avoid committees
Interviewers should be trained to assess fairly and consistently—but final hiring decisions should rest with the hiring manager, not a group vote.
Neal is a seasoned software developer and entrepreneur. He co-founded GovPredict and Women.com, both of which were backed by Y Combinator and were successfully acquired. After GovPredict was acquired, he served as VP of Engineering at Capitol Canary, continuing to build international software teams. He has a BA in Computer Science from Claremont McKenna College.
